Studio Updates: Mid-Season break, a new space, & more!
As the year comes to a close, Stephanie and I want to share some news about the goings-on at How it Ends Studio. We have a few updates about Season 3 and some exciting announcements about what's to come for How it Ends in the new year. Let’s begin with what’s coming up next:
Episode 8: Time Out of Mind, airing Thursday, December 15, marks our mid-season “finale!”
Our show is taking a short break from Friday December 16 until we return with Episode 9: The Final Postcard on Thursday, January 19. We won't be airing full How it Ends episodes over the end-of-year holidays, but that doesn't mean our feed will go silent.
Here's what you can look forward to during the break:
A New How it Ends Mini-Series
On Tuesdays, look for "From the Time Away: Part 1" a mini-series comprised of three mini-episodes featuring recordings during the time Micah and her friends were forced to stop airing the show. Do they hold more clues to the mystery or are they just for fun?
You'll have to listen to find out.
Introducing the…
Found Audio Creator Series
In our normal Thursday slot... we'd like to welcome you to our newly minted Found Audio Creator Series (FACS). This series seeks to help our listeners find more stories they'll love by featuring episodes of podcasts made by our fellow indie creators on our feed.
Our hope is to keep FACS going by releasing installments during set blocks of time between seasons of our show or during planned breaks. We aim to do a minimum of two series per year. For established shows, this series functions as an "episode swap" where we'll post your show on our feed at an agreed upon date and you'll return the favor.
But the true goal of the Found Audio Creator Series is to focus on featuring up-and-coming shows that are just starting out without a trade requirement. While we welcome all submissions, priority will be given to Women, BIPOC, Disabled and/or Queer-run shows. Audio Dramas are preferred, but we are open to other themes! If that's you and you're interested in participating submit your podcast for consideration by heading to https://www.howitendspodcast.com/foundaudio.
For this first installment, get ready to hear episodes from Afflicted, Ostium, The Storage Papers, and The Subjective Truth. Some of you may already listen to these talented folks, and if you do that's great! But if you've yet to start their shows, get ready for some fantastic storytelling!
We’re building a studio!
In 2018, How it Ends got its start by recording at AS220, a non-profit community arts center located in Downtown, Providence, Rhode Island. AS220 maintains live/work studios, individual work studios, exhibition spaces, a main stage, a black box theater, a dance studio, a print shop, a community darkroom, a digital media lab, a fabrication lab, an organization-run bar and restaurant, a youth recording studio, and a youth program.
That's a lot, right? Exactly. It made perfect sense for us to hit the ground running with an established space and faculty providing classes like Intro to Podcasting and Intro to Audio Recording, taught by our very own How it Ends editors, Jacob Haller and Chris Anderson. Thanks to AS220's offerings, we were able to complete our first two seasons and part of season three. We're grateful for what we accomplished in our first few years as a show.
Season 3 is our biggest, most revealing season yet... and much like it, our goals for How it Ends Studio are growing. It’s time for us to have our own designated space which will streamline production, make creating bonus content much easier, allow us to dream up future projects... and more.
Here are some progress pictures of the studio build! We're DIY-ing everything (as is common for indie podcasters), and doing our best to make a space that will set us up for the future. We'll definitely post reveal pictures upon its completion but we hope these will tide you over until then.
